This machine has a small router on the right and
a follow stylus on the left which is rigidly linked to the router.
The stylus follows the pattern (in this case, the outside pattern
of the canoe). The bottom of the canoe is about to be carved in
this photo. This carving machine required modification for canoe
work. The base which the pattern and the work piece are fastened
to is a chassis from an old Burroughs B81 minicomputer chain printer
that used to print water and light bills for the City of Ely,
Minnesota. The clamps which are holding the work piece in place
are custom designed and fabricated in-house.
